Weapons Detail: Primary, Secondary, and Melee Weapons

Available Across: Multiplayer, DMZ, Call of Duty®: Warzone™*

On October 23, Modern Warfare 4 launches with 33 weapons. Get a complete list of every weapon including detailed weapon stats and unlock criteria.

In Multiplayer, Create-a-Class customization unlocks at Player Level 4; before that point, choose from a variety of premade Default Loadouts to deploy with.

In DMZ, any weapon or Attachment you’ve unlocked or leveled up in Multiplayer or DMZ can be accessed in the Forward Operating Base Gunsmith station and equipped providing you have the DMZ Cash funds to purchase it. Weapons can also be acquired by looting during a deployment, constructed with a Weapon Manual found in Hajin, or purchased from the FOB Vendor.

(*Call of Duty: Warzone™ content integration arrives in Season 1 later this year.)

Weapons Overview

Primary Weapons (24):

Your main damage-dealing armament. Primary Weapons each come with individual Attachments that are unlocked as you level up the weapon. In Modern Warfare 4, each Attachment is unlocked only once, meaning that once unlocked, the same Attachment will be available across all weapons that use it.

Access Gunsmith to adjust each Primary Weapon with Attachments suited to your playstyle, to change its Appearance, and check its Progression.

In Multiplayer, equip the “Overkill” Perk if you plan to use another Primary Weapon in your loadout, taking the place of your Secondary Weapon.

In DMZ, you are free to carry two Primary, two Secondary, or one of each type of weapon into a DMZ match, and additional weapons if you have a specific Weapon Backpack type.

Expect the following Primary Weapon classes:

Assault Rifles (8)
Submachine Guns (SMGs) (5)
Shotguns (2)
LMGs (3)
Marksman Rifles (3)
Sniper Rifles (3)

Secondary Weapons (8):

Swap to this back-up weapon when your Primary Weapon runs out of ammo or needs reloading. Equip Pistols to face enemy Operators or a Launcher to take out vehicles, Killstreaks, and Operators. Gunsmith is available for Pistols, while Launchers can only change their Appearance (Camos, Decals, and Stickers). There are two types of Secondary Weapons:

Pistols (4)
Launchers (4)

Melee Weapons (1):

For use in close-quarter battles at melee range. Unsheathe your Melee Weapon by pressing and holding the melee button. In Multiplayer, equip the “Lethal Reach” Perk to automatically use your Melee Weapon attack when performing a weapon butt by pressing the melee button. Melee Weapons only change their Appearance (Camos). The following Melee Weapon will be available at launch:

FSS Carbon Edge 1095 (Knife)

Player Levels: Weapon Unlock Criteria and Weapon Prestige

Access the Multiplayer side menu and select your player profile at the top, then select Progression to view the in-game content you will unlock as you level up across Multiplayer and DMZ. Once you fully unlock all levels for a weapon, you can Prestige it.

Enter weapon prestige to earn exclusive camos. This will relock all of your attachments and reset your weapon level back to zero. Expect more information in the Progression and Prestige Blog.

Gunsmith Details

Available in both Multiplayer and the DMZ FOB, Gunsmith is a deep Weapon customization system that lets you tailor a firearm's performance, handling, and appearance by equipping Attachments and, new to Modern Warfare 4, Apex Attachments to suit your preferred playstyle.

When adding Attachments to a weapon or comparing your weapon to other weapons, Gunsmith displays values for Damage, Range, Accuracy, Mobility, and Handling. Players can dive deeper into weapon statistics by pulling up the Details menu.

Attachments Overview

Every Primary Weapon, plus Pistols, can be outfitted with Attachments which alter the weapon’s performance. Select individual Attachments to view their description plus a list of associated Pros and Cons. Attachment types include:

Optics: Improve target acquisition with a variety of sights, helping you line up shots more effectively.
Lasers: Tighten hip-fire spread, support a Canted Stance, highlight enemies, and provide other close-quarters aiming benefits, though some lasers may reveal your position.
Barrels: Adjust a Weapon's damage range, bullet velocity, and other ballistic characteristics.
Muzzles: Reduce recoil, suppress weapon fire, or otherwise refine shot control and weapon accuracy.
Underbarrels: Enhance recoil control and aiming stability or equip specialized launcher attachments where available.
Stocks: Boost mobility, accuracy, flinch resistance, or handling related handling traits.
Rear Grips: Adjust weapon handling, including Aim Down Sight (ADS) and Sprint-to-Fire speeds.

Infinity Ward has introduced some changes to the way Attachments are earned in Modern Warfare 4:

Each Attachment is only unlocked once, meaning there is no redundant grinding. The same Attachment is available across all weapons that use it, once unlocked the first time.
Each weapon can unlock all Attachments available to it.
Players do not have to utilize a different weapon to earn an Attachment on their favorite gun(s).
Grow your arsenal: The more attachments you unlock, the more that become immediately available when you start to use a new weapon.
Weapon Progression Speed: If you reach a level on a weapon that would award you an Attachment you already own, you skip that level with a Bonus Level Up.

Apex Attachments

Apex Attachments introduce a new tier of optional weapon customization, unlocked as the final reward for fully leveling a supported weapon. Equipped separately from standard Gunsmith Attachments, they don't consume an attachment slot, allowing you to further specialize your favorite weapons without changing your existing build.

Rather than offering incremental stat adjustments, Apex Attachments fundamentally change how a weapon performs. Some transform familiar platforms into entirely new combat roles, while others introduce alternate fire modes, integrated equipment, or specialized tactical capabilities unavailable through standard Gunsmith customization.

Every supported weapon has its own unique Apex Attachment, encouraging experimentation and rewarding players who master the arsenal.

Gunny: Attachment Optimizer

Available within Create-a-Class and the DMZ FOB Gunsmith, Gunny uses the Attachments you’ve already unlocked to craft suggested weapon builds, allowing players to experiment with different weapon characteristics, ranges, and combat roles without slowing down customization.

With a single input, Gunny can cycle through builds that support different playstyles such as close-range, balanced, or long-range, and these builds evolve naturally as new Attachments are unlocked, supporting weapon progression from early levels through full completion.

Firing Range

Every Weapon category offers its own strengths, handling characteristics, and role within a Multiplayer match. Visit either of the Firing Ranges (one for Multiplayer, one in the DMZ FOB) at any time to compare Weapon builds, test Attachments, and evaluate performance before deploying into a match.

In the Multiplayer Firing Range, bench test your weapons with a variety of features including:

Stats tracking in the top-left corner of your screen confirming targets killed, your accuracy, damage, moving target range, and TTK.
Practice dummies at 10-, 25-, 50-, and 100-meter intervals, with the ability to add one, two, or three plates to them.
